Some Good News for Save A Dog Rescue!!!

We are exhibiting select pets in need of adoption sponsored by Save A Dog Rescue. Anja (a volunteer) has recently found homes for two dogs after they met their new owners while hanging out in our front lobby.

We are very happy for them and hope to continue working with the Rescue. They will be our Angel Tree recipient of gifts and donations this year as well.

Meet Taylor (she now attends Doggy Day Camp with her new sister Sally). She is a very sweet and well-behaved lab mix. And we get to continue to see her!

And this is Leea: A lovely silky terrier we hope to see again when she needs her next shampoo and styling!

Save A Dog had some success this last weekend at Pet Fest in Old Town Spring, finding owners for multiple pets.

Meet Juliet!

"But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the East and Juliet is the sun."  We agree!  Recently we had the privilege to meet a new friend, and we'd like to introduce you to Juliet.  This was possibly the calmest puppy we had ever met!

Some other great things about Juliet....

*She is very low maintainence - she pretty much walks herself!

*She has tons of personality to spare!

*And she did a great job of babysitting our groomers before her go home bath!

One of the big highlights of working at Best Friends is all the new friends we get to meet every day.  You never know who will be coming in!  Come pay us a visit!

4th of July Festivities!

Summer is in full swing! Along with the season and all the holidays come some busy, busy times here at Best Friends! Yesterday we had a great time focusing on all our furry friends. Other than a brief rain in the afternoon, we had some great weather to celebrate with.

Some things to consider if you are dropping your pet off for their own vacation.  What will your pet be doing?  Treats, toys, and playtimes are a great way to keep your pooch occupied.  Your pet is welcome to bring toys and treats from home when they visit.  However, we do recommend leaving the very favorite toys at home.  If you're afraid the items might not last the visit, we do offer a wide variety of toys and chewies in our lobby, or you can sign your pet up to have room service deliver special, home made ice cream or suite treats to your pooch!

Playtimes are another great way to occupy your pooch.  Our new play and stay program is perfect for the pooch that enjoys the company of other dogs, is spayed/nuetered, and is over 5 months old.  Your pup will get four hours of playtime each day with other dogs under the supervision of our trained daycamp staff.  If this doesn't sound like something your dog would enjoy, they can still play one on one with our staff during playtimes, fitness sessions, and cuddle times.

PLEASE CALL US (281-298-6000) FOR MORE INFORAMTION ABOUT THE LYME DISEASE VACCINE.

Lyme Disease in Dogs

Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted by the deer tick (often referred to as the black-legged tick). Signs of Lyme disease in dogs are difficult to detect, and warning signs may not appear until several months after infection. Signs may come and go and can mimic other conditions. Cases vary from mild to severe. In severe cases of Lyme disease, kidney failure can occur.
Most common signs of Lyme disease:
Recurrent arthritis/lameness that lasts 3–4 days, sometimes accompanied by loss of appetite and depression
Reluctance to move or a stiff, painful gait
Swollen joints that are warm to the touch
Pain in the legs or throughout the body
Fever, fatigue and swollen lymph nodes

Valentine's Day Doggy Wedding

What better way to celebrate the day of love and happiness? Two of our regulars got "married" in a little ceremony here last Friday. It was a fun party for all the Doggy Day Camp attendees, although, truth be told, most of the guests showed up for the refreshments and reception.

Watch the Flowers!

Valentines Day is right around the corner, watch your pets around these flowers.....they can be harmful:

Different flowers in the lily family are extremeley poisonous to pets. Cats are more common lily poisoning victims than dogs, but they are toxic to both species. They are also very popular bouquet items. Lilies, Tiger Lilies, Easter Lilies, Tulips, and Calla Lilies are just some of the toxic plants found in the lily plant family.

Some other bouquet favorites that are likely to make your pet sick include:
-Baby's Breath
-Bird of Paradise
-Carnations
-Daffodils
-Dahlias
-Daisies
-Irises

-Peonies

Make sure to keep your flowers away from your pets and have a Yappy Valentines!
